The American Association of Equine Practitioners has released its new guidelines for the treatment and prevention of “Pigeon Fever,” an uncommon problem in most areas, but a big pain in areas where it occurs.  It’s messy, it can be pretty debilitating, and it takes a while for horses to fully recover (which they usually do).

DR. RAMEY NOTES:  This is a really important document if you’re in an area where pigeon fever is common.  It’s very uncommon in southern California – I haven’t seen a case since the 1980’s.  I’m glad, too.
