Federal Legislation Banning Medication in Racing Introduced – 5/13/11

horse-silhouette-3Senator Tom Udall (Democrat from New Hampshire) and Congressman Ed Whitfield (Republican from Kentucky) have introduced the Interstate Horse Racing Improvement Act of 2011. The purpose of the bills is “to prohibit the use of performance-enhancing drugs in horseracing.” The bill amends a previous bill, the Interstate Horseracing Act (IHA). This new bill applies the new prohibitions and requirements to any race subject to an interstate wager under the provisions of the IHA.

DR. RAMEY notes:  With concerns about animal welfare at the forefront of many peoples’ consciousness, you could see this bill coming from a mile away.  I’d be very surprised if it stops at racing horses.
