horse-silhouette-3Anti-horsemeat advocates are pushing for a ban on horse slaughter in Canada, but the Canadian government should carefully weigh the issue before taking action, writes Liz Twan in this opinion piece. Twan notes that the U.S., since implementing such a ban in 2007, has seen a rise in the number of abandoned horses. Based on AVMA estimates, banning horse slaughter in Mexico and Canada would require the formation of 2,700 more equine-rescue centers to provide care for as many as 90,000 to 100,000 unwanted horses, Twan adds.  CLICK HERE for Williams Lake Tribune, BC, Canada
